HPC for marine life safeguarding

The Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) leads the MER (Marine Ecosystem Restoration) project, a key initiative under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The project aims to safeguard and restore marine and coastal ecosystems, leveraging scientific research, innovation, and strategic interventions across national waters.

Within MER, eXact lab is contracted (together with OGS and CINECA) in Actions B32–B35. These focus on a comprehensive re-engineering of the marine biogeochemical operational chain that provides key insight on the dispersion of pollutants in the marine ecosystem at an unprecedented level of detail. eXact lab redesigned the data processing pipeline from the ground up, seamlessly integrating advanced data science techniques with high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.
